The Photo Paper Plus Glossy II paper is labeled "PP-301". To be precise, the Glossy Photo Paper Pro Platinum paper I'm using is labeled "PT-101". The only difference is the thickness of the paper. When looking at both prints straight on, as folks would normally view the prints while holding them, both look identical to me. In my case, when the light is just right to exhibit the maximum gloss, I can see a very slight texture in the Glossy II print while the Pro Platinum print looks perfectly smooth with no noticeable texture, wavy lines or any undesirable effect. Both prints look equally glossy at all of the various angles to the light. I just examined both prints by angling the cardboard to indirect sunlight from a window. (Test described in my recent "An interesting result of dye ink fading - Paper makes all the difference" thread. Both prints are mounted on a piece of cardboard for my TS9020 printer dye ink fade/tint test. I have the same image printed on both Canon Photo Paper Pro Platinum glossy and on Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II. With the Platinum, the gloss just disappears when light hits it at certain angles and I find that affect annoying. It's been a while since I was in to printing last. Specifically, the original Canon Photo Paper Pro (might have been called high gloss or super gloss). And then the options from paper companies are numerous-but I've never had much urge to buy anything other than Canon paper for Canon dye-ink printers and Epson paper for Epson dye-ink printers, other than a little Inkpress metallic glossy. If none of those suits you, Epson makes about four grades of glossy inkjet photo paper (Value, regular, Premium, and Ultra Premium). Obviously paper preferences are very much a matter of taste. Currently in addition to the Platinum paper you don't like (PT-101), there's Photo Paper Plus Glossy II (PP-301), which might be the best thing for you to try, and the thinner / much cheaper Glossy Photo Paper (GP-701). Presumably you're talking about Canon papers. Is there a third party that makes a better glossy paper that works well in the Pro 100 printer? Perhaps Pro Platinum was engineered for pigment ink? Overall, it just doesn't appear as luxurious. The wavy lines in the gloss are annoying and it looks dull when light hits it just right. Is this the case? I used to love Photo Paper Pro Glossy, but I just tried Pro Platinum and I don't really care for it.
